Recent Survey Reveals Additional Pressures on Nonprofits

Monday, July 19th, 2010

The Nonprofit Times reported last week that almost 40% of nonprofits lack the necessary staff members to deliver services.

A recent survey conducted as part of the John Hopkins University Center for Civil Society Studies’ Listening Post Project revealed that a large percentage of nonprofits have been forced to take actions that impact their workers.  These actions range from increasing workloads and hours, freezing salaries and cutting wages, reducing benefits and, for nearly 33% of nonprofits, eliminating staff positions.

Without the requisite staff, nonprofits are unable to support the beneficiaries that have come to rely upon them.

Peter Goldberg, chair of the  Listening Post Project Steering Committee stressed the urgency of the situation: “It is crucial to take steps now to help sustain the vital work of America’s nonprofit organizations.” To read the entire article, please click here and to review more detailed results of the survey, visit the John Hopkins website.

GlobalMojo works to alleviate these exact types of pressures on schools and nonprofits. We represent a unique online fundraising solution–we donate 50% of the revenue our users generate while browsing with us to the causes of their choice.

You can make a difference for your favorite nonprofit or school simply by downloading the GlobalMojo browser and browsing like usual.  Feel free to explore all of our many revenue generating features and to spread the Mojo by telling friends.

Together, we can work to ensure that our nonprofits and schools have the support they need to continue all of their tremendous positive impact.

Philanthropy Journal highlights importance of social media in fundraising

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

2010 has been a challenging year for nonprofit organizations. In the current economic environment, schools and nonprofits are finding it harder and harder to raise much-needed funds.

Experts are encouraging worthy organizations to think creatively when it comes to fundraising. Today’s article in the Philanthropy Journal outlines several important considerations nonprofits should heed to when trying to raise money.

One key consideration is leveraging social media outlets. As Craig Haubrich writes, “Your audience has become increasingly dependent upon social media to obtain their information, so it is important that you utilize social media to deliver your message.”

We couldn’t agree more.

One of GlobalMojo’s highest priorities is helping nonprofits and schools build an active, engaged community of online supporters. We offer several Free Partner Services Tools in the Nonprofit and School Services section of our website.

These tools are designed to help nonprofits utilize the Internet as a fundraising and communication channel. In our Implementing a Social Networking Campaign section,  GlobalMojo provides step-by-step instructions on how to conduct a social media campaign, with sample templates, facebook status messages and twitter updates for your use.

If you work for or manage a school or nonprofit, we encourage you to take advantage of these tools! If not, please encourage the organizations you care about to set up their own GlobalMojo browser and fundraising program here.

Thanks for reading and happy browsing!

Thank you.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which puts us in the mood to show our appreciation for all the good things we have.  All of us at GlobalMojo have a lot to be thankful for; and much of that is thanks to you. We’d like to send out a big “Thank you!” to all of our friends, family, partners and supporters for helping us create a browser and a company that can make the world a better place for everyone.

That’s why we created the “100% For the Holidays” campaign, with 100% of the revenue generated by GlobalMojo users through December 31, 2009, going to their selected causes. We can do a lot of good this holiday season, so help us spread the Mojo!

And thanks again for being part of GlobalMojo as we change the rules of the Internet—for good!

Happy Birthday Firefox

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Happy Birthday FirefoxAll of us here at GlobalMojo want to wish the Firefox browser a happy 5th birthday! Five years ago Mozilla debuted what would become one of the most popular web browsers and open source experiments—one that would be embraced by over a billion people around the world.

At GlobalMojo we think very highly of the Firefox browser — so much so that we built the GlobalMojo browser using the Firefox browser code architecture. We couldn’t do what we do without relying on Mozilla’s accomplishments that have proven that open-source software is every bit as good—if not better—than the alternatives. Mozilla has led the way in this effort to create and promote the Internet as an open platform, and we applaud them for their accomplishments.

In addition to appreciating their powerful open source software, we are proud to partner with Mozilla because their values so closely mirror our own — both Mozilla and GlobalMojo believe in the power of technology to enrich people’s lives. Using the Firefox browser architecture as a strong foundation, we have added powerful tools that give people a rewarding web browsing experience while generating money for their favorite causes. We’re also proud to feature the Mozilla Foundation as one of our featured causes (Support Technology With Social Value); if you don’t know who to Mojo for, consider supporting the Mozilla Foundation in their ongoing efforts to make the Internet a better experience for all of us!

Happy 5th birthday, Firefox!

Spread The Mojo!

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Here at GlobalMojo we believe that working to make small changes in everyday life can have a collectively huge impact in changing the world around you. Even one person’s efforts can effect a powerful change, and the results multiply exponentially as more people get involved. When we talk about ways to “Spread The Mojo,” we’re talking about using your social network and community to multiply the effect of your efforts and have a greater positive impact on the world.

We want you to join the GlobalMojo community with big dreams – ending homelessness, curing diseases, and protecting the planet—but since no one person can do that on their own, we’ve come up with some easy ways for you to spread the Mojo in your daily life.

Three Easy Ways to Spread the Mojo

1.  Take action to improve your own corner of the world.

Do you have fond memories of spending time at the local YMCA? Was there a teacher who changed your life? Did your favorite pet come from a pet shelter? In short, what organizations have made your life better in some way?

Now that you have identified some worthy causes, go to www.globalmojo.com and click on Search All Causes.  Enter keywords and your city to search over 1.5 million organizations to find those working for your cause, on a local, national or global scale.

The good news is you don’t have to choose just one issue.  You can support up to four charities at once, and decide how much of the revenue you generate they receive.

It’s that easy.  With just a few clicks, you are supporting your community and the causes you care about just by doing what you do every day.  It might not seem like much at first, but when you join a movement of socially conscious users committed to spreading the Mojo, all of those small choices have a major impact.

2.  Ask your social network to support the causes you care about — AND the causes they care about too.

Another great way to spread the Mojo is to get your family, friends, and colleagues involved. If one person can make a positive change; imagine the impact you can make if you get 10, 20 or 50 other people to support your favorite causes using GlobalMojo!

www.globalmojo.com offers two easy ways to spread The Mojo:

Ask a friend to download the browser & support the causes they care about.
Do you have a friend who is active on a local PTA, or a relative who volunteers for a local food bank?  Tell them about GlobalMojo using our email invitations, or by posting GlobalMojo on your social media profiles like Facebook and Twitter. Click here to visit our Tell a friend page.

Ask your friends and family to support the cause you care about.
Go to your “My Causes” page to review the organizations and schools that you currently support. Click Invite Friends, and our simple invitation tools make it easy to invite others to support your specific cause via email or social media.

3.  Spread the Mojo online & join our Social Networks!
A simple way to spread the Mojo is to use social media. You can become a GlobalMojo fan on Facebook, and follow GlobalMojo on Twitter, and then spread the word by inviting your friends to become a fan  as well.
