More Ways to Shop with Purpose!

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Just a few more shopping days left in the holiday season, and if you’re like us, you probably have put it off until the last minute! But that doesn’t mean we can’t still shop with purpose, and there are many ways to support socially conscious organizations with your holiday gifts.

GlobalMojo Comparison Shopping
GlobalMojo Comparison Shopping features tons of stuff that go easy on your wallet. Seriously—33 million products from top merchants like Barnes & Noble, Zappos, iTunes, Best Buy and more? You’re definitely going to find what you need. Just use the GlobalMojo Comparison Shopping button on the upper right hand corner of your GlobalMojo browser.

And remember, during the month of December, 100% of the revenue you generate using GlobalMojo goes to the causes you support. For example, when you spend $100 using GlobalMojo shopping, on average $4.00 will go to your chosen causes. (Estimate only; donation varies based on product and retailer selected.)

For more great ideas on socially conscious consumption, check out three of our favorite partner organizations:

Me to We – www.metowe.com

GlobalMojo is proud to partner with Free the Children and their Me to We brand of socially conscious clothing (i.e. ethically manufactured & sweatshop free!), books, DVDs and other great gifts! When you shop with Me to We, 50% of the profits benefit Free The Children, the largest nonprofit of children helping children through education.  As if that wasn’t enough, do you have a young person in your life that you would love to inspire to be an adventurer? Right now, buy any book through the Me to We Store and a book goes to a child in a developing country.

Oxfam America Unwrapped – www.oxfamamericaunwrapped.com

Oxfam Unwrapped

Oxfam America Unwrapped has a huge selection of gifts you give to those in need. You choose your gift, personalize the included card, and your donation goes all over the world to those who need it most. Give everything from a bar of soap to rebuilding a school.

Announcing “100% For the Holidays”!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

SEATTLE – American charities have weathered a significant drop in giving this year, and while they’re hoping for a holiday miracle, a recent survey shows they will probably see a decrease in year-end generosity. In light of the economic downturn, only 38 percent of Americans say they are more likely to give a charitable gift as a holiday present this year, compared to 49 percent last year, according to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive to be released Monday. Some of the biggest U.S. charities say they are budgeting for a disappointing Christmas.—The Associated Press, November 16, 2009

Many nonprofits are feeling the pinch from today’s challenging economic climate.  As the excerpt above from the Associated Press poll shows, the tough times are impacting charities’ fundraising efforts and their supporters’ donation levels, even during the traditional year-end season of giving.

However, there is some good news to report: In response to the fundraising challenges faced by nonprofits and schools, during the month of December, GlobalMojo will donate 100% of the revenue generated by our users to their chosen causes!

During the “100% For the Holidays” campaign, starting on cyber Monday, November 30th through December 31, 2009, GlobalMojo will donate 100% of the revenue generated by our users to their chosen causes. After December 31, 2009, 50% of generated revenue will go to users’ chosen causes.

Nonprofits aren’t the only ones feeling the pinch. Consumers are also looking for ways to be generous without spending more than they’ve budgeted for the holidays. Fortunately GlobalMojo offers powerful tools for your holiday shopping, that will help you quickly find exactly what you need (at the best prices) and raise more money for your favorite nonprofit:

We invite you to visit www.globalmojo.com to learn more about the GlobalMojo browser, and how we’re helping nonprofits and their supporters browse with purpose.

Note: If you are a nonprofit or school, please visit our nonprofit services pages to learn how you can maximize GlobalMojo as a free fundraising tool during the holidays and beyond.

Happy Holidays!

Featured Cause: Whatcom Middle School

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

whatcommiddleschoolAs many of you have heard, Whatcom Middle School in Bellingham, WA caught on fire on Thursday, November 5th. The 106-year-old school building’s roof collapsed during a fire displacing hundreds of students.  Two of those students happen to be the 11-year-old twin nieces of one of our GlobalMojo team members, Emily Hine. After the fire, the twins called Emily to see if GlobalMojo could help the school, and the answer was, “Of course!” We are happy to help kick off/contribute to the fundraising efforts in the following ways, and invite others to join us in supporting the WMS fire recovery efforts.

Here’s how people can help:

1.  GlobalMojo has set up a custom Internet browser specifically for Whatcom Middle School. Supporters of Whatcom Middle School browser can generate revenue for the school fire recovery efforts simply by downloading the customized browser and by doing what they do online every day—search, shop and make travel arrangements.  When you download and use the Whatcom Middle School browser at http://globalmojo.com/whatcommiddleschool, GlobalMojo will donate 100% of the gross revenue generated from your daily browsing activities to the fire recovery efforts through the end of 2009. After that, we will continue to donate 50% of the gross revenue generated by Whatcom Middle School supporters.

You can download the full browser or add-on for *Firefox and help us support Whatcom Middle School, by visiting this custom link: http://globalmojo.com/whatcommiddleschool .

2.  We are also pleased to kick off the fundraising efforts by making a cash donation of $500. To encourage additional support, GlobalMojo will match another company’s donation of up to $500 to WMS. Donations can be made to the Whatcom Middle School Fund at the Whatcom Community Foundation website: www.whatcomcf.org .

3.  Please spread the word to everyone you know by sharing this blog. If every alumni, parent, grandparent, uncle or aunt who knows a student or teacher impacted by this loss makes a donation and encourages their company to step forward to make a donation, we can help the students and teachers rebuild what they’ve lost in the tragic fire at Whatcom Middle School.

Let’s rally the community to help the students, teachers and recovery efforts of Whatcom Middle School!

Featured Cause: Stand Up Against Poverty!

Stand Up Against Poverty
For the fourth consecutive year, millions of people around the world will “Stand Up and Take Action” to demand that world leaders end poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

In September 2000, 189 world leaders adopted the MDGs as part of the Millennium Declaration at the United Nations Millennium Summit. The MDGs offer us a roadmap to end poverty and its root causes.

The MDG’s set an unprecedented global framework for development that is a crucial step towards ending poverty and inequality by 2015.

The eight MDG goals include:

Last year, a record-breaking 116 million people stood up and took action to end poverty and help achieve these Goals. This movement has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest mobilization around a single cause in recorded history.

However, this is a time of extraordinary challenge. The global financial crisis is having a devastating impact on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable, and the climate crisis threatens to undo the gains that have been made towards achieving the MDGs. With only six years left to the 2015 deadline, no region is on track to achieve their goals.

We must make fulfilling the MDGs an urgent priority, and ‘Stand Up, Take Action’ is a vital opportunity to send a clear directive to world leaders to deliver on the promise they made to the world’s people to usher in a new era of equality, health, and prosperity.
